What our Families are Saying

My kids absolutely love this camp! There is variation throughout the day and week so they’re always engaged. The instructors are thoughtful and inspire the kids to create!
Kari W.
My son loves doing the art. He likes that the structure exists, but that the way kids engage with it is up to them, and that they can spend time doing the activity or have some time to themselves outside or in the loft upstairs. I love that it is totally unplugged and STEM-oriented.
Rachel D.
Loved the open play with counselors around if needed but not instructing them constantly.
Kristin S.

General Information

The concept of the “adventure playground” is rooted in three things: an ethos of unrestricted play, the presence of “playworkers,” and the absence of commercially-manufactured play-structures. Essential to the experience are “loose parts,” variables that create opportunities for building, inventing, and investigating. Loose parts can be anything from pine cones to planks to rope.

Junkyard campers design their own day.  All facilitated activities are “challenge by choice”.  Campers are offered multiple theme related challenges and activities each day.  Most  choose to engage with the facilitated activities and others may engage in group play of their own design or  choose more solitary play or arts and crafts projects.. Campers have access to tools, loose materials, and craft supplies all day. Playmakers provide support to campers as they learn new skills and oversee an environment of safe, adventurous play.

The Junkyard has small, shaded areas in the 6000 square foot courtyard and large garage doors that provide access to the 2000 square foot indoor commons space. Please bring your camper with sunscreen already applied, and additional amounts to apply during the day. See below for information about inclement weather..

There is no bad weather, only poor clothing choices. Colorado’s weather is unpredictable, please send your camper with seasonally appropriate clothing.  In the case of lightning, threat of tornado, or other serious weather events, campers will be sheltered indoors

Our camp is open to children ages 6-12. Each program is tailored to be age-appropriate and engaging for all participants.

We have a camp manager, camp facilitators, camp assistants, and teen volunteers. Staff are experienced professional facilitators, trained in safety protocols, and fully committed to the Junkyard Social Club philosophy of care and child-led exploration.  Our FITs (Teen Volunteer Facilitators In Training) are trained as well.

We follow strict safety guidelines, including first aid-trained staff, emergency procedures, and secure check-in/check-out processes.

We strive to be an inclusive camp and will do our best to accommodate any special needs. Please complete the registration forms on Sawyer or email us at hello@junkyardsocial.org to discuss any necessary arrangements.
